Azure Virtual Desktop, commonly abbreviated to AVD, is Microsoft’s new remote application and desktop service designed for the public cloud.
AVD is exclusive to Microsoft’s Azure public cloud, AWS and Google Cloud offer their own virtual desktop services.
AVD works across Windows 10, Windows Server and also Windows 7 operating systems – with extended security patching for Windows 7 until January 2023.
Let Atlas Cloud take care of your virtual desktops for Microsoft Windows to unlock these benefits and more.
The remote or hybrid working world in which we now find ourselves means on-premise IT systems need to catch up.
AVD gives you a simple and secure solution to allow on-premise applications to be accessed from any location – in or out of the office.
Gone are the days a single endpoint device was used for work. Stop holding employees back and let them work the way they want to work; AVD gives a work environment that lets users pick up where they left off from any device.
AVD also gives a secure solution to enabling Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD).
If your applications are still running on Windows 7, AVD is your cheat to free patching until 2023. Without that and your systems are at serious threat to increasing vulnerabilities.
With a pure pay-per-use model, you can implement AVD and only turn them on when needed – giving your organisation a fully-scalable, on-tap solution to keep employees working. Even in the most exceptional of circumstances.
Virtualising on-premise infrastructure meant using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Service (RDS) and, more often than not, combining with Citrix’s Virtual Apps and Desktops Standard for Azure (CVAD).
While Citrix technology wasn’t considered all that sophisticated in the early days; today, it is considered fundamental if you’re looking for a productive, low-bandwidth virtualisation solution.
Moving to public cloud means replacing RDS technology with AVD. That means swapping standard CVAD for CVAD Standard for Azure.
Just as is the case on-premise; if you’re looking for a productive, scalable and low-bandwidth solution, CVAD for Azure is a must for public cloud virtualisation.
For over ten years, we’ve specialised in the provision of Virtual Desktop technologies.
Over that time, we’ve developed close relationships with key vendors like Microsoft and Citrix and have seen our DaaS solutions win multiple high-profile awards.
We’ve been audited to high standards for previous high-compliance customer requirements.
Combining industry-standard Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001 accreditations, you can be confident Atlas Cloud handles personal information with secure processes.
Since we began over ten years ago, we’ve always aimed to fix everything remotely (from within the UK) to cut the costs of expensive travel and engineer day rates.
Of course, we can offer on-site assistance where required.
As part of our proactive approach to security and service, we regularly arrange for external third-parties to attempt to find vulnerabilities in our systems. If anything’s found, we look to fix them quickly.
Public-sector organisations in the UK will be relieved to know we are G-Cloud 12 approved.
Private-sector organisations may be encouraged to hear we adhere to UK Government standards in pricing, processes and security.
“We have a good working relationship with Atlas and feel that they have taken the time to understand our business and our requirements.”

From consultancy, licencing and implementation through to fully-managed services, as one of the best cloud services companies in the UK, we can help organisations of any size enable secure remote working through Microsoft technologies.
For Citrix Workspace access control or other managed IT solutions, contact Atlas Cloud today!
AVD licencing comes packaged with Microsoft 365 E3, E5, A3, A5, F3 and Business Premium.
You will also require budget for infrastructure fees that AVD uses. In Microsoft Azure, that’s a pay-per-second model and will be in accordance with Microsoft’s publicly available pricing. We can help you both predict and also limit AVD usage.
Atlas Cloud charges a management fee as a small proportion of your Microsoft Azure billings for any relating managed services.
